Founded in 1964, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) is a public scientific and technological Institute that operates under the joint authority of the French Ministry of Health and French Ministry of Research. 13,000 persons, including over 8,000 Inserm employees, almost 3,000 members of university hospital personnel and 1,450 foreign research scientists work in 318 research units, comprising 27 research centers and 52 clinical investigation centers. INSERM coordinates 548 research and development contracts and has 731 patents in its portfolio. Inserm plays a leading role in creating the European Research Area and boosts its standing abroad through close partnerships (teams and partner laboratories). The Paris Cardiovascular Research Center (Inserm Unit 970) was created in 2009 next to the George Pompidou European Hospital (Paris, France). The main objective of more than 250 persons working within the research center is to establish an optimal scientific and medical environment in order to promote excellence in the development of and training in translational Cardiovascular Research.
